It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST), Kumasi Technical University. The Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology was carved out from the Faculty of Applied Sciences in October 2016. The reason for renaming the faculty was to help introduce new technology-related programmes and to properly manage the existing ones in the institution. The Faculty has six (6) academic Departments. These are: Department of Statistical Sciences, Department of Computer Science, Department of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management, Department of Information Science, Department of Food Technology and Department of Mathematical Sciences. As a Faculty, we offer not just undergraduate qualifications (eg Diploma, BSc. and BTech) but also have a full suite of postgraduate qualifications up to Doctoral (PhD) level. 

It houses a large group of interdisciplinary professorial and teaching staff in Applied Sciences and Technology. Our colleagues include global-renowned scholars in their fields, as well as young, promising scholars with tremendous talent and passion. They strive to nurture human capital professionals who are knowledgeable, caring, reflexive and possess a strong commitment to supporting social responsibility and inclusion. We are dedicated to advancing knowledge for effective and humanistic services through education and research excellence.

Here, faculty members are actively engaged in interdisciplinary research and teaching, responding to the changing needs of different populations, and creating societal impact in Ghana and beyond. We are achieving high levels of social impact and knowledge transfer on both staff and students front. Staff are making giant strides through their participation in topnotch academic conferences – both locally and internationally – while on the students front, they participate in highly rated exhibitions and competitions including, but are not limited to, the following:

1. 2023 Africa Statistics Day: The Statistical Sciences Department emerged champions/winners among 7 competing Technical Universities of the Statistics Knowledge Contest, which was covered live on national television and radio in a popular “What Do You Know” contest.
2. 2023 World Skills Ghana Zonal Competition: Students from the Computer Science Department secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in the IT Software for Business session.
3. Big Chef Tertiary Contest: The hospitality department emerged second-place winner among all the public Technical Universities in Ghana.   

Even as we receive public recognition for our many great achievements, FAST remains focused on pursuing academic excellence and promoting impactful research for benefit of citizens and leadership to shape policies.

The faculty provide students with a nurturing environment to learn, explore and develop their career. Collaborations with an array of industries are in place to offer internships and or attachment to foster the link between theory and field experience. Also, through the university’s International Affairs and Institutional Linkages Directorate, a global network of partnerships with renowned universities across different continents has been established to offer students and staff exchange programme opportunities.
